The house
A beach house built for slow mornings, Samastiti by the Beach is a four-bedroom beachfront house on Lovina’s quiet black-sand coast, sleeping up to twelve. The villa blends antique Javanese woodwork with clean modern lines — high ceilings, deep verandas, a generous open kitchen and a long pool that frames the sea beyond.
Each of the four bedrooms has its own ensuite bathroom, so two or three families or a group of twelve friends can share without ever feeling crowded. A small gym is tucked off the garden for morning workouts. A firepit on the beachfront terrace becomes the natural gathering spot at sunset.
Outside, the garden runs straight to the sand. The bay is calm and swimmable. We can arrange a private boat to pick you up from the sand in front of the villa. By night, the only sounds are the waves, the fishermen, and the occasional gamelan from a village ceremony.

The pool is half-shaded — the only covered pool we know of on the north coast — so children can splash and swim all day without getting sunburned.
A baby cot, high chair and a small play area are available on request. The kids’ bedroom has two pull-out beds, giving younger guests their own space without needing an extra room.
The experience
You wake to the sound of waves, not an alarm. The garden gate is already open onto the black sand. If you’ve asked for the sunrise boat, it’s waiting on the sand by 5:45 — a fisherman jukung, not a tour group — and the dolphins are usually offshore within twenty minutes.
Back at the villa, breakfast is laid on the veranda overlooking the pool and the lily pond. The morning is unhurried: a swim in the half-shaded pool, a stretch in the small gym, or simply the hammock and a book while the kids splash where the water is shallow.
By afternoon, the choice is yours — a walk to a beachside restaurant for grilled fish and a cold Bintang, or a drive to the Banjar hot springs, 15 minutes inland. As the light softens, ease into the infrared sauna before a private massage — your own therapist, set up wherever you like in the villa, no driving to a spa and no one else’s playlist. Evenings belong to the firepit on the sand: the gamelan from a village ceremony drifts in some nights, and the only other sound is the tide.
